  • Max Jones joined Montgomery | Amatuzio in 2004 as an attorney and became a partner in 2008. Before joining the firm, he worked as an attorney at national and regional law firms in the South, as well as in-house counsel for various insurance companies.

As a partner, Max advises numerous insurance carriers on first and third-party coverage issues and defends carriers in coverage and bad faith litigation. He also specializes in claims involving product liability, premises liability, toxic torts, auto and trucking accidents, and personal injury defense. Max has successfully handled complex, high-exposure cases, often involving multiple plaintiffs and presenting significant exposure beyond available insurance coverage. He has also defended clients against multiple claims and lawsuits arising from the same incident or course of conduct. Many of his cases involve claims for punitive damages, allegations under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act, and claims brought under Colorado’s statutory insurance bad faith laws, C.R.S. §§ 10-3-1115 and 1116.

Max is recognized for his ability to navigate complex cases involving multiple attorneys and parties. He has a reputation for being straightforward and for bridging the divides that often hinder resolution. In 2023, Max was honored by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association—an organization of trial lawyers often adverse to Max and his clients—with its annual Professionalism Award, given to one defense lawyer in Colorado each year.

He has been named to the Super Lawyers list and is a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys. In the past, he has worked with the Defense Research Institute as a member of the Insurance Law and Product Liability committees and has co-authored, on occasion, the Colorado section of Insurance Bad Faith: A Compendium of State Law. Max is also a member of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, where he has provided CLEs and served on panels discussing Colorado insurance law and related issues. Since 2015, he has been on the faculty of the Colorado Bar Association, presenting the Insurance Law Update at the Annual Colorado CLE – Tort Law Update and providing additional CLEs on topics such as Colorado wrongful death claims.

Outside of work, Max enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and taking advantage of everything Colorado has to offer, including skiing, hiking, camping, and riding his ATV.
